In your opinion, is Winston a coward when he shouts, “Do it to Julia!”? Why or why not?
I do not think that Winston is a coward when he shouted, "Do it to Julia!" because he was exhausted and lhe valued his life. A coward would have confessed everything from the start, but Winston held up until he was faced with rats. I think anyone would have said it if they wanted to live; it didn't mater how they lived but to live was something that Winston wanted. Julia had betrayed him so why couldn't he do the same?

36. Some readers are surprised that Parsons has been arrested. How do you feel about it and why?
I did not think that it was a shock finding out that the Parsons would be arrested because their children were spies and it seemed resonable for the Parsons to get arrested. I thought from the begining that they would get arrested, even though they were so proud of their children being spies and arresting other people. to me it just seemed likely because this is also a book and it would be more tragic if the children arrested their parents.

20. Winston and the girl have never met, yet her note says, “I love you.” How does Winston feel about the girl at this point in the story? Discuss your definition of love and whether or not you believe it is possible for two people who have never spent any time together to really be in love.
Winston is confused because all of a sudden a girl he just met tells him that she loves him. I believe that there is love at first sight, but in a sense its not love but the beauty of someone. However I don not think that the girl and Winston are truly in love. Because the government does not allow women and men to marry or have sex out of love, Winston and the girl are desperate. At the same time, I feel that the girl would not have said that with any other person because she felt a connection with Winston. Winston also knowing this is very wierd and confusing, he was willing to have sex with the girl. First I think that Winston had sex with the gril out of lust and desire, but later on he accually get to know her and like her.

5. Winston writes in the diary about the films he saw the night before. At the films, the audience applauds at the sight of a child’s dismembered arm going up into the air. Some critics believe the audience and Winston have been conditioned to accept this kind of violence from constant exposure to violent images. Do you think today’s movies have desensitized their audience, so they accept and expect to see brutal violence?
I think that today's movies have desensitized their audience, so they accept and expect to see brutal violence, however, it is not as extreme as the films that Winston wrote about in his diary. Ever since recorded history and before that, violence has been a part of people's lives and it has been considered as a type of entertainment. In every movie that I have watched has violence involved, even for the shortest time. People do expect to see violence but not the same all for the same reason for why the audience metioned by Winston. People watched violence for entertainment but mainly for the thrill of the mystery underneath and the story line of the films. The audience were watching the movie for shear entertainment. Violence has become a part of every one's daily lives, but that does not mean that people are used to it. For example, Winston mentions that the audience laughed when a little boy blew up. Though thier are people that do laugh such violence there are more people that feel grosed and frightened.
